Self-care comes in various different shapes and forms. For us, self-care comes in the form of skincare & wellness. A good and solid skincare and wellness routine is sacred towards taking care of ourselves.

With that said, as we celebrate our very first anniversary at BFF Manila, we look back at some of our prized and most-loved products through a glossary of everything you need to know about beauty.

A – Acne

If you’re blessed with great genes, chances are you’ve never had a problem with acne which makes you one of the lucky ones. According to a report, 90% of the world’s population have been affected by acne at some point in their life whether that may be commonly in their adolescence or well into their adult years.

However, acne is still curable, especially with potent yet non-irritating ingredients like zinc and albatrellus ovinus extract. Products like Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Clarifying Serum helps fight the nastiest of breakouts while giving you younger-looking skin. A win-win!

B – Brightening

Dull skin can be quite the issue, especially when it makes you look tired 95% of the time. Getting bright and radiant skin isn’t far from each when you’ve got trustworthy products to do all the work for you like EviDenS’ Brightening Cream that nourishes and improves overall skin texture, leaving an even complexion and a glow.

C – Cleansing

Cleansing should be an essential no-brainer step to your daily skin care regimen. In fact, it’s the very first step and building block for the rest of your other products’ success. A good cleanser won’t strip your skin or irritate it. Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Darker Skin Tones Enzyme Cleanser has the best of both worlds because it’s a cleansing foam and a gentle peel all in one!

D  – Deep Conditioning

If you’re someone who dyes their hair a lot or you’re prone to dry and brittle hair, deep conditioning is a remedy you definitely need to try out. The secret to healthy, soft hair is moisture and deep conditioning does the work by reducing damage, improving shine and strengthening your hair all while moisturizing it. One of the best deep conditioners on the market has got to be Philip B’s Lightweight Deep Conditioner.

E  –  Exfoliant

Exfoliating is a key step in any routine that helps target dead skin cells by removing them through products like chemical exfoliants, physical exfoliants or peels. Cane + Austin Retexture Pad 10% Glycolic Acid is surely a good pick because it detoxes skin and leaves it brighter, plumper and calmer and it’s perfect for sensitive skin.

F – Fiber

Feeling bloated? Fiber is your best friend then! Fiber acts like a helping hand in breaking down food for the body and leaves your digestive system healthy while flushing out harmful carcinogens out of your system. Our no-fail fave is Trizie’s Clean Fiber because it cleanses the gut while helping you lose weight, helping support your body’s reset.

G – Green Tea

Green Tea is a common ingredient in a lot of skincare products and mainly because it has so many great benefits that come with it. This ingredient has anti-inflammatory properties that help in skin irritation and redness and does great work in soothing the skin. FEMMUE’s Gentle Green Relief Mask is a clay mask that is made of kaolin clay, sea mud, glycerin and green tea that make the perfect combination altogether to take out the dirt and grime of your skin while also gently exfoliating and refreshing it, making sure it doesn’t strip your skin from any moisture.

H – Hydration

Regardless of your skin type, everybody needs to stay hydrated, most especially towards your skin. Drinking water may do wonders, but taking the next step further by making sure your skin gets enough hydration it needs with the correct products is just as important!

A key ingredient towards achieving that is hyaluronic acid that retains moisture to the skin while improving skin elasticity. Much like collagen, as we age, hyaluronic acid in our system naturally decreases as well so it’s all the more significant to watch out for the weights of the HA molecules when picking the right products.

Our handpicked favorite and an amazing example of this is Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum that deeply penetrates skin layers and refreshes skin, leaving long-lasting radiance. This product will make your skin feel as if you’ve downed a couple of extra glasses of water, and will retain that natural youthful bounce.

I – Illuminating

We all strive for illuminating skin and in all honesty, it’s not as easy to achieve as it seems. For some products, it may take a while but not for 111 Skin. Their Rose Gold Illuminating Eye Mask boasts instant effects that uplift, illuminate and awaken your eyes. This product contains a good dose of antioxidant-rich colloidal gold and rose damask extract that’s set on targeting skin radiance by creating a naturally luminous under eye in the form of a hydrogel eye mask.

J – Jet Set

A lot of people tend to travel back and forth, may that be for work or for pleasure, domestic or international. Regardless, for some people who love taking care of their hair, especially on extensive trips where you may neglect the presence of good hair products. Among the must-haves that you should certainly pack are a good shampoo, conditioner, texturizing spray, dry shampoo and most especially hairspray. Making sure your locks don’t move in place, while jetting from place to place may be a tedious and frustrating task for some. But alas, Philip B’s Jet Set Precision Control Hairspray puts all your concerns to rest, giving you voluminous hair while leaving no strand out of place without any stiffness or crunchiness.

K – Kits

For all those who are indecisive and want to try it all, kits are your saving grace because it gives you the chance to try every single product. EviDenS’ Brightening Discovery Set is one you’ll surely want to try out, especially if glowy skin is what you’re looking for. It comes with the travel-sized version of the brand’s best illuminating products.

L – Lifting

As we age, our skin tends to sag and that’s completely normal. Yet that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything we can do towards lifting our skin. In fact, there are a handful of nonsurgical and noninvasive ways to do so.  Lo and behold, Dr. Spiller’s Youth - The Lifting Ampoule that stops the signs of chronological skin aging and wrinkles.

M – Mask

A really good mask will make your skin feel super brand new after using it, much like a new-born’s. Masks take the spot before the serum in your routine and do a spectacular job in locking in the moisture or ingredient in your skin and it also works as a helping hand to hydrate or exfoliate, depending on the specific purpose of the mask. Masks are definitely a good pick-me-up because they work effectively in a short amount of time. That said, one of the best masks in the market is FEMMUE’s Rose Sleeping Mask that brightens, moisturizes and calms skin down while casting a healthy and refreshed glow. What more could you ask for?

N – Night

Did you know? According to the Sleep Foundation, insomnia is present amongst 10-30% of adults. All things considered, sleep is extremely vital to any self-care routine because it’s one of the purest forms of rest and helps our bodies function better when needed. Trizie’s Night Z Supplements may do the job if you suffer with insomnia, as it naturally calms you to fall asleep and leaves you energized the next morning.

O – Oil

Oils are scary for a lot of people, but we’re here to tell you that it’s not as intimidating as you think. There are lots of oils in the market that do the trick to repair. Hair oil is surely something you should consider for your hair care regimen, especially when it does its part in acting as the food that nourishes your hair. As your hair gets longer, the ends of your hair tend to get less nourishment or food, which is where hair oil comes in to it’s job. Philip B’s Rejuvenating Oil is one of them, as it intensively treats and moisturizes your hair and scalp and simultaneously heals existing damage, restoring life to your locks.

P – Purifying

In a world with so much pollution present, we seek products that help purify our skin. Dr. Spiller’s Balance - The Purifying Ampoule is ideal for everyone who has oily skin and wants to minimize the appearance of pores, get rid of blemishes and pimples and retain a healthy amount of moisture to the skin.

R – Retinol

Retinol may be a daunting product to some people, but it’s pretty effective in resurfacing the skin in targeting scars, pigmentation, pores, and more. It also helps speed up the cell-turnover in skin to help combat aging. 111 Skin’s Celestial Black Diamond Retinol Oil is a solution that does it all and boasts dramatic overnight effects.

S – Serum

Serums contain a high concentration of ingredients that make it effective in penetrating the skin’s barriers. FEMMUE’s Balance Moments serum is powered by camellia extract that plumps skin and has a lightweight feel that soothes and smoothes texture.

T – Toner

A quintessential step in any skincare routine, a toner acts as a fast-working product that helps bring moisture and hydration back to the skip while also removing the gunk and dirt that your cleanser didn’t quite catch. Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Balancing Toner removes oil build-up, pre-moisturizes skin and delivers a balanced complexion.

U – UV Rays

UV Rays are super harmful to the skin. Not only can it speed up aging, it can also damage your skin’s barrier and in worst cases, it may even cause skin cancer. With that in mind, it is with the utmost importance that we take the proper measures to ensure the safety of our skin. EviDenS Anti Pollution Total Shield SPF50 PA ++++ protects skin from the harmful rays, while revitalizing complexion and improving radiance.

V – Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that brightens and evens out skin tone while also moisturizing skin. Call it the fountain of youth in a bottle, FEMMUE’s Lumiere Vital C is non-irritating and restores a youthful radiance for all skin types.

W – Wrinkle

Wrinkles are everyone’s worst nightmare, but they’re also pretty inevitable. Although, alternatives like Kahi Seoul’s Wrinkle Bounce Multi Balm help reduce their appearance and promote skin elasticity. It also boosts collagen production and guarantees your make-up won’t cake while using it underneath.

Y – (NAC) Y2

Developed exclusively by 111 Skin, NAC Y2 or Y Theorem is a complex that includes a trio of activities that speed up the healing process while also repairing skin. Fun fact: the founder, Dr. Yannis Alexandrides actually made this with the purpose of helping his surgery patients recover faster.

Z  – (Sub) Zero

Sub Zero is a term closely associated with the recently popularized treatment called ‘Cryotherapy’ which uses liquid nitrogen to create sub-zero temperatures that reveal sparkling results for skin in terms of reducing sebum production, atopic dermatitis, and more. 111 Skin’s Sub Zero line is essentially cryotherapy in the form of skincare that helps plump skin and remove puffiness almost instantly.
